Berserker Mode: A dormant form of a Black Arms member/hybrid that makes the user more powerful in terms of speed, strength, and foresight as well as letting the user hone any chaos abilities, familiar and new, without the use of a chaos emerald. However, they are more prone to losing control as well as their sense of self due to its raw and unpredictable power, changing the behavior of the user to become more aggressive. As a result, the berserker form cannot be retained for too long. This form can be triggered either through any overwhelming and usually negative emotions or the presence of the Black Comet. The former being the most probable trigger.

Okay it's cannon but like in an alternative universe because Comics. I just think the fact DC made Known Murderer and Reblious Teen with Daddy Issues a Catholic priest in a different universe. Just. Casually.

Jason Todd is may or may not be Catholic in the main timeline of DC Comics, but I the Flashpoint storyline, my man is a priest! He was a drug addict, thief, and in the Blood Brother cult before dying, only to come back to life and decide to become a priest in the hellhole that is Gotham. In the main timeline, he comes back after dying and stuffs a duffel bags full of heads! The common trait before all Jason Todds is that they all have to be as dramatic as possible. Dying and coming back as the most unexpected thing. Unbelievable. I love this man.

Ok listen. I know this is a stretch but hear me out. He says “oh my God” in the Twitter takeovers so we know this is a possibility. I see him as a Christ-like figure because I saw his whole confrontation with Mephiles and was like “this is a thing that happened in the Bible??” and the pose Mephiles shows him in is literally like a crucifixion and Mephiles is meant to be a demon / false prophet reference. And also he’s called a demon in Shadow The Hedgehog 2005 then the guy who calls him that is like “I was wrong I’m sorry” and that also reminds me of a thing with Jesus in The Bible. But the biggest reason is his whole thing with Maria cause I think he’d come to earth and hear Ave Maria once and convert to Catholicism idk he’s like we’re comforted by a female familial figure named Mary sometimes called Maria?? And her color is blue????? Heck yeah I’m in because I Will Cry. Also feel free to share this as propaganda obv even if he doesn’t get in the bracket just. It’s funny.

☆ Some information on it and how it works. This WILL be updated overtime, tweaked, adjusted, and reffered back to, atleast until i start publishing everything properly!

SHORT SUMMARY:

Starweb is an insect/bug themed Sonic AU in which all mobian characters in canon are bug counterparts to their original species! Ex: Hedgehogs = Spiders, Echidas = Ants, Foxes = Weevils, etc. Instead of just bugs though, they are referred to as Insectians! Basically means people.

REFERENCE SHEETS AT BOTTOM‼️

• What's it about? ★

The story follows primarily Sonic and Shadow in their lives as Insectians, born and living through different paths in what they consider nature, even with some opposing opinions on how to survive right. This is a Sonadow plot, but you can consider it more of constant slowburn. This world works on a base of "survival of the fittest," meaning that animals eat bugs & bugs eat other bugs, just like reality, of course there is a prey vs predator system that comes with this.

• Terminology! (wip) ★

• Execution? ★

ー Insectians - The replacement word for mobians, refers to the general bug or population. It does not matter if the insectian in question is an insect in real life, they could be an arachnid and still be considered an insectian. EX: There was another insectian nearby.

ー Forager - An insectian who collects human-made or unnatural objects, whether for use or just having it, this includes those who make homes from said objects, EX: living in a former soup can.

ー Beastie - An insult used against vegan insectians that are not naturally vegan, this would be considered a minor slur, but it is frequently amongst those in tune with their instincts to mock those who aren't, EX: "You're a beastie."

ー Scavenger - Insectians that feed on other dead or decaying insectians. This is commonly used in phrases or insults, as being a scavenger is considered "unclean" by some, EX: "You eat like a scavenger."

ー Tamer - An insectian with the talent of taming animals that aren't bugs, such as birds or rodents.

ー Vagabond - Those insectians with adventure in their veins who cannot or do not want to stay in one place, often insectians that have little fear of their natural world and explore.

ー Dwellers - Insectians who live close to humans or inhabit human homes, this can be infestations or genuine pets with enclosures. Dwellers are commonly lacking instinctive knowledge of the wilderness depending on where they were born and lived.

ー Chao - Farmed or pet: Grub, maggots, or larvae of some kind, they are like the human equivalent of chickens as they are commonly used for an easy food source that doesn't involve hunting or killing other insectians for said food.

ー Season - Refers to someone's age or time passed in life, being in season means one is of the age of maturity, it's often used to separate old from young insectians, though this doesn't always work as bugs can be big and not be in season, they do not celebrate things like birthdays or keep track of ages. It can also be used to state an insectian is immature, EX: "For your age, you sure are out of season."

ー Maggot - Can be used as an insult towards another insectians intelligence or adolescent behavior, the replacement for idiot or stupid, it means someone's as smart as a maggot, maggots are the baby/larvae stage of some bugs such as flies, EX: "You act like a maggot."

This is going to be done a little weirdly, written similar episodes or "one-shot" formats in chronological order of events or days in the story, some may be back to back events and some may not. It won't be written like a script for a show i just mean like how in Shows they go in the right order but different days = different adventures, the plot is happening!

ー There will occasionally be "special" meduims that appear in between, during, or on the side, aside from degault writing, including short comics, art pieces, & MAYBE animatics or animations. In addition, don't expect my writing to be top-tier like WC or WoF, I'm better at drawing visuals but it would take me a very long time and motivation to make the entire think a comic, so only special chapters would get full comics.

(You will never see me try to write a description of how a character looks by default by the way, i cannot do descriptions, you are just getting a random refsheet in the middle or beginning of introduction. 🦔🎸)

• Story layout! ★

In total the whole main plot line would likely reach about 4-5 arcs, though I'm only focusing currently on 3-4 arcs, most content so far is arcs 1-2. I'm not sure how many "chapters" or parts there will be inide each arc yet, but I'll say between 10-15? Roughly. Not counting b-plots with other characters, may make a seperate section or something for that. I do know the events that take place in each arc, I'm just narrowing it down to simplicity.

• Extra Information! ☆

ー Thought i should mention incase this is asked again. YES you can make Starweb ocs or convert your ocs into Starweb!! There is currently no master list of every mobian species converted to their correct bug, but if you wish to ask or want to know the au-specific physical characteristics you can ask anytime!

ー About the species, they don't have highly specifc species, they are all mostly just generalized. For example: even if one spider was specifically inpired to be a tarantula they'd still just be called a spider, only their size may be larger or more accurate to the real bug.

(Some are barely more specific, such as weevils (foxes), to those who don't know their entomologyー they are beetles, but the beetle insectians in Starweb are lizards like espio. 🪲)

• As for art! ☆

Unless i say something is canon it's likely just not, so don't take my drawings or fanart too seriously. You can tell my kinsona apart fairly easy considering some of the added patterns and the fact he's the size of normal Sonic and can wear clothes/accessories. Insectians are the size of bugs and do not canonly wear clothesー at best makeshift stuff from the recourses around them like leaves.

It's interesting that you've run into more Sonic '06 defenders as of late, because I think I've noticed the same thing. I've been thinking about why that is for a hot minute, and I wonder if it has to do with just how awful the video game industry is at the moment.

Games come out polished sometimes nowadays, but normally they're catastrophically broken on release and take months of post-launch patches to become somewhat playable, if they get those patches at all. Perhaps younger fans of the Sonic series, having grown up in this environment, go back to play Sonic 06', see all of its bugs and bad game design decisions, and think "Wait, that's it? That's not even the worst game I've played this week."

That is, it's less that Sonic '06 is suddenly good now, it absolutely is not, but more that the bar has sunken so deep into hell that even a blatantly broken game like Sonic '06 doesn't look particularly bad in comparison to what comes out now, so they miss the context of why it was so controversial on release.

This is an old ask that got buried, but I think it's still relevant, and to me it's just...

Liking something ironically is the path to liking it unironically. Maybe that means you're being honest with yourself, or maybe it's just familiarity. That happens with music -- so much so that there's an article from the National Library of Medicine about it. The more familiar you are with music, even if it's a song you hate, the more you eventually begin to enjoy it. It's a scientific fact.

I'll say it again and again and again, but it's the Rocky Horror Picture Show effect. When that movie came out, it was not beloved by the mainstream! Is IDW Sonic The Real Sonic?

So, is IDW Sonic The Hedgehog real Sonic, or does Ian not understand Sonic at all?

First, there is no real Sonic. Sonic has changed massively over the years. Check his super snarky and dare devil personality in Sonic SatAM and compare it to Sonic in Sonic x Shadow Generations. Huge difference, because Sonic is updated to be cool depending on the generation.

But more in depth, what does it mean to be Sonic?

Historically, it means to be a rebel. It means to love danger and adventure. It means to be snarky with quips and cutbacks. It means to be cool. And absolutely nothing else. Sonic, in the games, is a completely flat character. He exists purely to be 'cool' and anything that could compromise that is cut out, because Sonic exists solely to sell merchandise.

Sonic never gets asked inconvenient questions. Sonic has no beliefs or philosophies beyond 'live life your own way' which is poorly defined. Sonic doesn't get yelled at by his friends for more than one scene or episode before everyone hugs and makes up because the fight is based on a huge misunderstanding. Sonic is never, ever wrong, and if you hate Sonic, then it's because you're evil and you're doing villainous things.

Sonic's world is one of adventure and flat characters with the depth of a puddle. This is not a bad thing, because sometimes keeping things simple is the best solution for a fun game, and a simplistic story of good vs evil is always welcome. But it does mean you have to make it so there are no consequences.

Ian... doesn't do this. He asks, "What kind of person does what Sonic does?" "What kind of things would that person believe in?" "What kind of world is Sonic's world?" and finally, "What are the consequences for Sonic's actions, or lack of action?" He asks inconvenient questions, and that makes Sonic fall apart because he isn't designed for that level of introspection.

IDW Sonic is a hero. He's a champion. He defends the innocent and protects the world from Eggman. This is what Sonic is in the games, and much of the media, but - because Ian is asking inconvenient questions - Sonic is also childish. He is selfish. And he refuses to change.

The comics introduce "The Sonic Cycle" - Eggman or some other villain cause trouble, people get hurt, Sonic stops them, they escape, and then Sonic goes wandering until villains cause trouble again. Sonic is letting it happen through his inaction and refusal to take any decisive action to prevent it, and everybody else just lets him let it happen - and nothing ever changes.

So... is IDW Sonic the real Sonic? No. Because IDW Sonic has actual depth and to deal with the consequences of his actions, and the real Sonic never does, even as that lack of consequences keep Sonic fun and whimsical.

Does Ian understand Sonic? Ian understands Sonic perfectly, it's just that he's decided to actually have a Sonic that's not a flat puddle. If you're going to take Sonic apart like Ian does, you need to understand him first.

But everything aside, my God do I love video game Sonic, and IDW Sonic, and every type of Sonic they've created over the years. And even as Sonic continues to change to fit the times, I hope his adventures never end.

Reports have indicated the sightings of a dark, mysterious being whose only other traits include a red aura surround its body as well as one yellow and red eye. This figure is also connected to a strange voice that some can hear, but only for a brief amount of time. The figure would show up soon after the individual hears that ominous voice.

Certain individuals would be accompanied with someone else, but their companions would deny seeing the same figure when questioned. To make matters stranger, all reports come from individuals who share DNA with the Black Arms.

Is there a connection to the figure and the Black Arms?

These batch of pages probably took me the longest to make (because it’s three instead of two pages), but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out! Hope you all like it the same way! This is also the part with the most dialogue between characters, so I hope my writing does justice to the characters!

sister michael so reminds me of the nuns who taught me. they're tough and sometimes a little harsher than a woman who dedicated her life to god should be but they're also wonderful people. i had a nun teacher who was 60 years old and would do handstands. another nun (also in her 60s) told me god was nonbinary. another was really mean and made me cry. (so did the handstand nun.) while the catholic girls school is The Catholic Experience, the school wouldn't have been the same for me or the derry girls without at least one nun who seemed to have sprung up out of the ground fully formed, ageless.

Ok listen. I know this is a stretch but hear me out. He says “oh my God” in the Twitter takeovers so we know this is a possibility. I see him as a Christ-like figure because I saw his whole confrontation with Mephiles and was like “this is a thing that happened in the Bible??” and the pose Mephiles shows him in is literally like a crucifixion and Mephiles is meant to be a demon / false prophet reference. And also he’s called a demon in Shadow The Hedgehog 2005 then the guy who calls him that is like “I was wrong I’m sorry” and that also reminds me of a thing with Jesus in The Bible. But the biggest reason is his whole thing with Maria cause I think he’d come to earth and hear Ave Maria once and convert to Catholicism idk he’s like we’re comforted by a female familial figure named Mary sometimes called Maria?? He is Jesus, idk what to tell you. He lived, he was sealed away, he was awakened again and deemed the ultimate lifeforms, he’s angry but not evil, does what he believes is best for people and the world at any given time. Total loser.

There seems to be some confusion in the notes. He is Catholic. It may not be explicit, but it can be inferred.

Shadow was created by Professor Gerald Robotnik, and for the early part of his life, lived with Gerald and his granddaughter, Maria Robotnik.

Robotnik is not a made-up name. Google Search results may only bring up pages related to the Robotniks of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, however, it is a rarely used Polish surname. Poland is a historically Catholic nation, and… come on. Maria is the most Catholic name ever. The Robotniks are Catholic. Shadow was created and raised by Catholics.

Now you may be wondering to yourself: Does Catholicism even exist in Sonic? The answer is yes, at least in the Archie comics, where Protestants are explicitly mentioned.

Couple this with the fact that several characters, including Shadow, have canonically taken the Lord’s name in vain, it is reasonable to infer that Christianity, and therefore Catholicism, exists.

So… while Shadow’s own religious beliefs may not have been explicitly addressed… at minimum:

Catholic is a cultural designation that Shadow will always be allowed to claim based on the family that made him.

Whether he’d actually want to claim that designation is a different conversation, but the other propaganda does a fine job of explaining why it may be appropriate to headcanon him as a practicing Catholic.

Now that we’ve established that Shadow has as much of a right to be in this tournament as anyone else, there’s one very important reason you should vote for him:

It would be funny if he won.

Essays are done!! Here’s some Shadow propaganda because the propaganda we currently have sucks and I need to fix that. While yes, Shadow being Catholic is a meme, there is more to outside of the simple “fandub said so” and its not quite stated its Catholicism but just how he behaves and his actions. There’s a lot of Sonic content so I will try to keep this brief. Gonna get headcanons out of the way.

Shadow is Chilean and so are Maria and Gerald Robotnik because I fucking say so and they’re Catholic. He definitely had un rosario next to his like. Bed or test tube whatever he slept in. So did Maria btw. Alright let’s move on because I am 100% correct.

Let’s start with some background for Shadow. Shadow was created as a cure for a girl called Maria and he grew to care for her as a sister and loved her deeply. He was artificially created but still holds a soul that is similar to Maria’s. Long story short, Maria is killed protecting Shadow who watches as she’s shot in front of him. He has his memories tampered by Maria’s grandfather, Gerald, who manipulates him into carrying out revenge on the Earth, even if Shadow ends up as collateral.

Shadow struggles with frequent identity crises, even before Maria’s death and always wondered what his purpose was, what he was made to do. Was he a weapon? Was he a cure? He’s the Ultimate Lifeform, but what does that truly mean? ? He’s Shadow, but what more is there to him? He doesn’t know what his purpose is other than what others have prescribed to him, and he guides himself through the will of others (something that he breaks through afterwards but not yet). Shadow at his core is self-sacrificing and constantly punishes himself. This is where you can see some of that good old guilt that everyone has been using as propaganda, but we also see someone who is giving and kind.

He is snarky in the game, especially when interacting with Sonic, but he’s having what is essentially an ongoing mental breakdown but keeps moving because it is his duty to his sister. He doesn’t believe himself important enough to continue on after her and sees it in himself to act out on “Maria’s wishes”. After the revelation that Maria’s final wish for Shadow was for him to make those on Earth happy and to protect them, he immediately sacrifices himself to do so.

Okay, that’s a lot and you’re probably asking “Okay, you mentioned he is a giving person and yeah he has guilt, but that’s not really Catholicism” and yes you would be right! So let’s go into the more important part of being Catholic. The charity, the community, the kindness, etc. Shadow is a very reserved person and has the habit of being a dumb teenager because well. Yeah. Anyways, he definitely has a soft spot for those he cares about and while his whole arc (in my opinion) is about finding the freedom of self-autonomy, it is also Shadow growing as a person and deciding not to save people because others have told him he needs to, but because he wants to. It is born from his soul and its his nature to care for people. It is who he is, and he knows it now. He’s not doing it because he’s a hero or because he is told to do so. Shadow is a very giving person and I think people tend to forget about that especially due to bad writing from the past decade or so. He is also stated to help out at food shelters and volunteers a lot. He is proud and a bit prickly, but he cares so deeply about those he loves. He is stronger with his loved ones and will always do his best to protect them. These are minor, yeah, but you don’t need sweeping and enormous acts to get attention for the good deeds you do. Most of what you apply of Catholicism is done at the personal level, between your friends, family, and community.He also goes to Mass whenever he can and if he can’t he goes to the capilla and also does the sign of the cross whenever he runs by a church.
